8 Top Security Tips For Your New Conservatory

Those of you having conservatories built at your Tameside home should start thinking about how you’re going to ensure that it’s as secure as the rest of your house – important since there’s a lot of glass involved in the construction of these living spaces, which can mean they’re relatively vulnerable to break-ins.

First of all, make sure that you hire a reputable and experienced company to help you so that you know construction will be unparalleled and all materials used will be of a certain standard. This will automatically mean it’s harder for people to gain access to your home through your new extension.

If the roof is made of glass, do make sure that the glass itself is toughened. Not only is this good for security but it’s also good from a safety point of view as well. You should also make sure that the rest of the glass you use has internal beading as this is a lot more secure than external, which can simply be removed by a determined burglar.

If you’ve gone for bifold doors, make sure they come with robust multi-point locking and in-line tracking systems, as this will make it very difficult indeed for intruders to lift the doors out of their frames. Always check to make sure that the locks used comply with the relevant British standards so you have even less to worry about.

As with the rest of your house, you would also be wise to install a good working burglar alarm in this part of the property just in case.

But do remember that an awful lot of domestic security actually comes down to you and the other people who live in the property. If you’re not using the conservatory, make sure that the doors and windows are properly locked and secured, as you would in any other part of the house. And make sure that everything is shut and locked if you’re going out for any period of time – even if it’s just to pop to the shops for some milk.
