Thinking of doing some DIY and home improvements this year? Then you’ll certainly be interested to hear that the most popular parts of the house for renovations are the kitchen and bathroom – perhaps the inspiration you need to start work on these spaces in your own home!
According to Gocompare.com, the top ten most popular home improvements that have been carried out in the last five years are fitting a new kitchen, installing a new bathroom, having a new boiler or central heating installed, double glazing, making over the garden, building an extension, knocking through rooms, adding an extra bedroom, fitting solar panels and converting the attic.
Apparently, one-third of homeowners have significantly improved their property in the last five years, but only 48 per cent remembered to let their home insurer know about the work they did. Forgetting could invalidate your home insurance policy.
“If you’re thinking about a major renovation project, you should review your home buildings and contents insurance to make sure that you have adequate cover – both during and after the work has been completed,” Ben Wilson, home insurance spokesman, said.
